PHYSICAL THERAPY AND REHABILITATION IN DENVER, WHEAT RIDGE, AND LONE TREE COLORADO

Governor’s Park Chiropractic proudly offers chiropractic therapy and sports therapy and rehabilitation services in Denver, Wheat Ridge, and Lone Tree, Colorado.

Chiropractic adjustments focus on the motion of bones. Remember the other main component of the musculoskeletal system? Muscles are often the culprits that cause your bones to become fixated again. Rather than just continue to adjust you as you become fixated, I prefer to retrain your muscles to prevent future fixation. This is what I mean by “retrain.” Your body is an amazing organism that learns from and adapts to the environment in which you live.

When you injure yourself and do not immediately seek care, which is often the case since some injuries are so minor that go unnoticed, your body eventually gets used to the injured state. This could mean getting used to muscles that are too tight on one side of the bone, which pull the bone away from where it should sit. This could also mean tight muscles preventing any motion in the joint.

After my adjustment, the tight muscles just pull the bone away from the correct position, causing it to become fixated again. We need to retrain the muscles to stay in the pre-injured state to prevent fixation, thus reducing your need for future chiropractic care. This is where therapy and rehabilitation come in.

What Happens In a Rehabilitation Program?

Your first visit to your physical therapist includes a thorough examination. The therapist will start by asking you questions about your injury or condition. During this initial consultation, you should be as honest as you can with the licensed physical therapist. Being candid with your physical therapist is the most effective strategy and you should look to see if they ask some of the following questions:

  • Where are you feeling pain?
  • What is the level of pain?
  • What is your health history?

The next step in your therapy is for your physical therapist to conduct physical assessments to determine your strength, balance, flexibility, and mobility. These assessments reveal where you are in the recovery process and allow your physical therapist to devise a specified program. They will examine how your condition affects your daily activities and part of the exam might depend on blood pressure readings and other tests.

Since Governor’s Park also has licensed chiropractors, we will combine these evaluations to determine the best treatment plan for your condition and whether it should combine other therapeutic methods such as chiropractic care.

THERAPY SERVICES WE OFFER

We have many different therapies available in our Denver and Lone Tree offices. They generally fall into two categories: passive and active.

Passive means that you do not take an active part in the therapy or you lie or sit during the therapy.

Some examples of passive therapies include electrical stimulation, ultrasound, mechanical traction, acupuncture, massage therapy, and therapeutic exercise or muscle work. Active means that you take an active part in the therapy by participating in activities such as stretching, exercising, or placing tension on a certain muscle group.

The licensed and experienced therapists at Governor’s Park Chiropractic are here for all of your chiropractic and therapeutic needs. Whether you need chiropractic care, acupuncture, physical therapy or a combination of all three, we can help you get back to living the life you love.
